Bremner, Billy (William John) (1942-1997)| Scottish footballer. He captained the Leeds United side, winning two league championships and two other domestic trophies between 1968 and 1974. He also reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1973. A tenacious midfield player, he made 771 first team appearances for Leeds between 1959 and 1976, and scored 115 goals. Bremner played 54 times for Scotland (scoring three goals) between 1965 and 1975, and captained them in the 1974 World Cup finals. |

| Bremner left Leeds for Hull City in September 1976, moving to Doncaster Rovers two years later as player-manager, and won promotion for the club from the former Fourth Division. In 1985 he returned as manager to Leeds, who were now in the Second Division, but was unable to revive the glory years he had enjoyed as a player and was sacked after three years. He spent a second spell at Doncaster (1989-92) after which he made a living as an after-dinner speaker and media pundit. |
