Bren gun

Standard light machine gun of British and Commonwealth armies during World War II. Probably the best light machine gun used by any army during the war, it was simple, effective, and highly reliable.

A gas-operated weapon of .303 in calibre, it was adopted 1936 to replace the Lewis gun. Weighing 10 kg/22 lb, it used a 30-round curved box magazine mounted above the gun, and fired at 500 rpm (rounds per minute).
