Brendel, Wolfgang (1947– )

German baritone. From 1971 he has been successful at Munich as Papageno, Wolfram, Germont, and Pelléas. He made his New York Metropolitan Opera House debut in 1975, as Mozart's Count, and appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1985 as Luna. His other roles include Verdi's Miller (which he sang in Chicago, in 1983), Marcello, and Mandryka, and he sang Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera/A Masked Ball at Munich in 1994.
