Brett, Jeremy (1933-1995)

English actor. He won acclaim for his classical performances with the Old Vic, London, in the 1950s and appeared on Broadway in Richard II (1956). On television he is known for his definitive portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's Victorian sleuth in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984-85), The Return of Sherlock Holmes (1986-88), The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes (1991), and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1994), as well as several specials.

His other television work includes The Three Musketeers (1966-67), Rebecca (1979), and The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1982). He once played Dr Watson, to Charlton Heston's Holmes, in a Los Angeles stage production entitled The Crucifer of Blood (1981). Film appearances include War and Peace (1956) and My Fair Lady (1964). He was born in Berkswell, Warwickshire.
