Brevard County

County in east-central Florida, on the Atlantic Ocean; area 2,577 sq km/995 sq mi; population (1990) 399,000. Its capital is Titusville. It is bordered on the east by barrier beaches that enclose the Indian River and Banana River lagoons and Merritt Island. The site of Cape Canaveral and the John F Kennedy Space Center is the home of Florida's space industry. The Indian River region is particularly noted for its citrus fruits.

Beachfront resorts include Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, and Palm Bay.
