Brewer

City in east-central Maine, on the Penobscot River, across from Bangor; population (1990) 9,000. It has light industry and distribution facilities. The house of the American Civil War general Joshua Chamberlain is here.

Brewer was formerly a shipbuilding and pulp and paper milling centre.
