Brewster, David (1781–1868)![]() Scottish physicist David Brewster. Sent by his parents, at the age of 12 years, to Edinburgh University to study for the ministry, he instead became a highly active pioneer in science. In addition to his important discoveries in light polarization and metallic reflection, Brewster was a fellow of the Royal Society, and a keen contributor to the early Encyclopaedia Britannica.
