Brewton

City and administrative headquarters of Escambia County, southern Alabama, 108 km/67 mi northeast of Mobile, on the Murder Creek across from East Brewton (population (1990) 2,600), just north of the Conecuh River; population (1990) 5,900. It is an agricultural, lumbering, and oil centre, and is home to Jefferson Davis State Junior College (1965).
