Brialmont, Henry Alexis (1821–1903)

Belgian general, the leading fortifications engineer of his day. As director of fortifications in the Antwerp district, he was responsible from 1884 for the forts at Namur and Liège (which were later unable to withstand German fire in World War I). He also undertook the direction of defence projects for the Rumanian government.
