Brideshead Revisited

Novel (1945) by Evelyn Waugh. The plot revolves around the deep fascination Charles Ryder feels for the Roman Catholic Flyte family who own the great house, Brideshead. The conclusion contains a melancholy affirmation of spiritual values in spite of human unhappiness. It marked a development beyond Waugh's previous career as a satirist. The book was successfully dramatized for television in the 1980s.
