Bridges, Calvin B (Blackman) (1889–1938)

US geneticist. With mentor and colleague Thomas H Morgan, he proved the chromosomal theory of heredity and determined the mechanism of sex-linkage in the fruit fly Drosophila.

He was born in Schuyler Falls, New York. He did postgraduate research at the Carnegie Institution, became a faculty member there in 1919, then moved to the California Institute of Technology with a group of Carnegie geneticists 1928–38.
