Bridges, Jeff (1949- )

US actor. He has successfully mixed populist mainstream work with more offbeat character roles. His many films include the thriller Jagged Edge (1985), the musical drama The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989), in which he co-starred with his brother Beau (1941- ), the drama The Fisher King (1991), the romantic comedy The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996), the dark comedy The Big Lebowski (1998), the science-fiction drama K-Pax (2001), and the horse-racing adaptation Seabiscuit (2003).

Born in Los Angeles, the son of the actor Lloyd Bridges (1913-1998), he made his film debut as a child in The Company She Keeps (1950) and his adult film debut in Halls of Anger (1970). He received Academy Award nominations for The Last Picture Show (1971), Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974), and Starman (1984).
