Briggs, Robert William

Briggs, Robert William (1911–1983)

US developmental biologist. He made major contributions to studies of nuclear transplantation and nucleocytoplasmic interaction in amphibian eggs and embryos.

He was born in Watertown, Massachusetts. He taught at McGill University, Montréal 1938–42, moved to the Institute for Cancer Research, Philadelphia 1942–56, then joined Indiana University 1956–74, continuing his scientific writing after his retirement.
