Brigham City

City and administrative headquarters of Box Elder County, northern Utah, on the northeastern shore of the Great Salt Lake, 84 km/52 mi northwest of Salt Lake City; population (2000) 17,400. It processes and distributes local peaches and other fruits, sugar beet, grain, and alfalfa, and has storage facilities, canning plants, and woollen mills. Products include rocket boosters and propellants.

It was founded in 1851 as Box Elder, and was renamed in 1856 after the Mormon leader Brigham Young, who gave his last speech here in 1877. Its 1876 tabernacle and pioneer museum draw visitors.
