Brimmer, Andrew Felton

Brimmer, Andrew Felton (1926– )

US economist and educator. As a member of the Federal Reserve Board 1966–76, he followed a moderate course on monetary policy, especially on issues involving taxation, government spending, and inflation.

He was born in Newellton, Louisiana. He served two years in the army before earning a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Washington, and, in 1957, a PhD from Harvard. He worked as an economist for the Federal Reserve Board and taught economics at Michigan State University. He left the board in 1976 to establish his own investment/consultant firm, Brimmer & Co.
