British Airways

Largest British airline and one of the biggest in the world, formed in 1974 by the merger of British European Airways (BEA) and British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). Originally state-owned, British Airways was privatized in 1987. In 2006 the airline carried almost 36 million passengers worldwide with a fleet of 282 aircraft. Its international network covers about 150 destinations in 75 countries. BA's main operating bases are Heathrow and Gatwick airports outside London.
