British Airways
| Largest British airline and one of the biggest in the world, formed in 1974 by the merger of British European Airways (BEA) and British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). Originally state-owned, British Airways was privatized in 1987. In 2006 the airline carried almost 36 million passengers worldwide with a fleet of 282 aircraft. Its international network covers about 150 destinations in 75 countries. BA's main operating bases are Heathrow and Gatwick airports outside London. |
