| The first accession documents much of Freeman's research and publication career, covering his training in the tradition of British social anthropology at the University of London and Cambridge University and also reflects, in particular, his later shift of interest towards a synthesis of human biology and anthropology. Chabot, who explicitly acknowledged the influences of the fieldwork methods of British social anthropology and the American "culture and personality" writers, saw his task as interpreting and analyzing his own field data in a highly subjective, but also reflexive, account of his fieldwork experiences. From them it is possible to determine the breadth of Freedman's contribution both to British social anthropology and Chinese anthropology in general. |
