Brive (-la-Gaillarde)

French town in the département of Corrèze, on the River Corrèze; population (1990) 53,000. It manufactures shoes, textiles, and paper, and has a metal-processing industry. There is trade in chestnuts, wine, and truffles. It was known to the Romans as Brive Curretiae and has a 12th-century church.
