broadband

In computing, a type of data transmission in which a single circuit can carry several channels at once, used for example in cable television. Broadband networking is one way of supplying much greater Internet bandwidth over the existing telephone system. See also ADSL.

The term broadband refers to the method of transmitting voice, video, and data using frequency division multiplexing (FDM). Broadband is one of the fastest growing new technologies in history, with more than 200 million subscribers using it for Internet and entertainment connections in 2006, and forecasts that this would double by 2010.
