Broadbent, William Henry

Broadbent, William Henry (1835–1907)

English physician. He was at various times physician to Queen Victoria, Edward VII, and George V.

His writings include The Pulse (1890) and Heart Disease (1907, with his son). He received a baronetcy in 1893 and was made KCVO in 1901.

Broadbent was born in Lindley, near Huddersfield. He graduated from Owen's College, Manchester, and continued his studies in Paris. From 1858 to 1896 he was on the clinical staff at St Mary's Hospital, London. At the medical school he lectured on physiology, zoology, and comparative anatomy, and proved an excellent clinical teacher. He was also physician to the London Fever Hospital 1860–79.
