Brockhaus, Friedrich Arnold (1772–1823)

German publisher. He was the founder of the publishing firm of Brockhaus in Leipzig, Germany: he initially went into business in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1805, and was so successful that, in 1817, he moved to Leipzig, where he combined the trades of book-printing and publishing.
