Broman, Sten (1902–1983)

Swedish composer, viola player, and critic. He studied in Prague, Stockholm, Fribourg (Switzerland), and Berlin, and in 1927 took a degree in music history at Lund University. He became music critic to the Sydsvenska Dagbladet. His music progressed from Hindemith to the avant garde.

Works

incidental music to Aristophanes' Lysistrata; fantasy for chorus and orchestra; nine symphonies (1962–77); Academy Festival Overture, Chorale Fantasy and concerto for orchestra; prelude, Gothic Suite and Litany for string orchestra; suite for viola and strings; three string quartets, keyboard music.
