Bronx

River flowing from the Kensico Reservoir, Westchester County, USA, southwest through the Bronx, New York, where it enters the East River at Hunts Point; length 32 km/20 mi.

It is paralleled for much of its course by the Bronx River Parkway, an early New York restricted-access highway, and flows through Bronx Park, a 284-ha/700-acre preserve containing the New York Zoological Gardens (the Bronx Zoo) and the New York Botanical Garden. Below the park, in the last 3 km/2 mi of its length, the river is navigable and heavily industrial, except where Sound View Park occupies its east bank near its mouth.
