Brookfield

Town in northeastern Illinois, a Chicago suburb 19 km/12 mi southwest of the Loop (the central business district of Chicago); population (1990) 18,900. It is primarily a bedroom community. The Chicago Zoological Park, commonly known as the Brookfield Zoo, was opened here in 1934.

Brookfield was founded as Grossdale at the end of the 19th century.

Town in Worcester County, south-central Massachusetts, 24 km/15 mi west of Worcester; population (1998 est) 3,000. It was founded in 1660 as part of the Quabog Plantation, and is now a commuter settlement with some tourism related to rural pursuits. There is also some light manufacturing, a dairy industry, and a resort area on Quabog Pond.

Brookfield

City in southeastern Wisconsin, 16 km/10 mi west of Milwaukee, of which it is a residential suburb; population (1990) 35,200. It has some light industry.
