Brookhaven

City and administrative capital of Lincoln County, southwestern Mississippi, 80 km/50 mi southwest of Jackson; population (2000) 9,900. It is situated in a dairying, lumbering, livestock-raising, and oil- and gas-producing area. A trade and manufacturing centre, it produces mobile homes, thermometers, lawnmowers, and clothing.

Brookhaven

Town in southeastern New York; population (1990) 407,800. It incorporates many suburban villages on Long Island's North and South shores, including Mastic, Patchogue, Stony Brook, Port Jefferson, and Brookhaven village (population (1990) 3,300). It is the site of the Brookhaven National Laboratory for Nuclear Research.
