Brooklyn Park

City in southeastern Minnesota, on the Mississippi River, a residential community 14 km/9 mi north of Minneapolis; population (1990) 56,400. Commercial strip development characterizes much of the southeastern and southwestern areas of the city.

Settled in the 1840s, it was formerly a village surrounded by market gardens and dairy farms. Suburbanization occurred after World War II and accelerated during the 1980s.
