Brookville

Town and administrative headquarters of Franklin County, eastern Indiana, 48 km/30 mi southwest of Richmond, between the East and West forks of the Whitewater River; population (1990) 2,500. It is a trade centre in an area in which corn, grain, and tobacco are grown.

It was founded in 1804. Whitewater State Park is to the northeast, at the upper end of Brookville Lake.

Brookville

Incorporated community in Oyster Bay town, southeastern New York, on Long Island, 8 km/5 mi southeast of Glen Cove; population (1990) 3,700. Situated on the northern shore, it is an affluent suburb with large estates. Old Brookville is to the northwest.
