Broome County| County in south-central New York; area 1,844 sq km/712 sq mi; population (1990) 212,200. Its capital and largest city is Binghamton, situated on the Susquehanna River with Johnson City and Endicott. The Tri-Cities dominate the county's economy with their shoe manufacturing and other industries. Farms raise poultry and beef and dairy cattle, and produce vegetables, maple syrup, lumber, and dairy and wood products. |
