Brossard, Sébastien de

    0.01 sec.

Brossard, Sébastien de (1655–1730)

French composer. He studied philosophy and theology at Caen and was self-taught in music. He lived in Caen until 1683, when he went to Paris and worked at Notre-Dame, later at Strasbourg. In 1687 he became maître de chapelle at the cathedral there and in 1698 music director at Meaux Cathedral. Although he was a prolific composer he is more famous for his dictionary of music (1703, the first in France).
