Broughton, T (Thomas) Robert S (Shannon) (1900–1993)

Canadian-born Roman historian. His Magistrates of the Roman Republic 1951–52 and the Addenda and Corrigenda (1986) records every known Roman magistrate from 509 BC–31 BC This monumental work, largely a solo effort, made it possible to apply accurately the techniques of prosopography, the study of relationships between individuals, to the Roman Republic.

He was born in Corbetton, Ontario, Canada. He took his first degree at the University of Toronto, Canada, and his PhD at Johns Hopkins in 1928. Mainly teaching in the USA, he taught at Bryn Mawr 1928–65 and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 1965–70; emeritus 1970.
