Brown, Howard Mayer (1930–1993)

US musicologist. He studied at Harvard and was professor at the University of Chicago from 1967. His writings include Music in the French Secular Theater, 1400–1550 (1963), Music in the Renaissance (1976), and Major Unpublished Works in a Central Baroque and Early Classical Tradition (1977– ; planned in 60 volumes). He founded Collegium Musicum in Chicago, for the performance of medieval and Renaissance music.
