Brown, Iona

Brown, Iona (1941– )

English violinist and conductor. She studied with Hugh Maguire and Henryk Szeryng, and played in the Philharmonia Orchestra 1963–66. She joined the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields in 1964, and became its director from 1978. She was artistic director of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra from 1981, and of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra from 1987.
