Browns Ferry

Browns Ferry

Nuclear power plant on the north side of Wheeler Lake (the Tennessee River) in Limestone County, north Alabama. It is located 16 km/10 mi southwest of Athens and 53 km/33 mi east of Florence. In operation since 1973, it is one of the world's largest nuclear plants. A nuclear accident in 1975 resulted in the closure of the plant for 18 months. This incident marked the beginning of widespread disenchantment with nuclear power in the USA.
