Bryce, James (1838-1922)

British Liberal politician, professor of civil law at Oxford University 1870-93. He entered Parliament 1880, holding office under Gladstone and Rosebery. He was author of The American Commonwealth 1888, ambassador to Washington 1907-13, and improved US-Canadian relations. Viscount 1914.
