Brydon, Roderick (1939- )

Scottish conductor. He studied in Siena and Vienna and was artistic director of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra 1974-83. He conducted A Midsummer Night's Dream at Edinburgh in 1983 and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1984. He was musical director of the Lucerne Opera (where he produced Carmen and Don Giovanni) and director of the Berne Opera 1988-90 (where he produced Capriccio and Peter Grimes). He made his US debut with Albert Herring at Los Angeles in 1992, and has also led Rossini's Otello in Venice, Alcina at Karlsruhe, and The Rake's Progress at the Geneva Opera. He has given concerts in Munich and Paris.
