Bryn-Julson, Phyllis (1945– )

US soprano of Norwegian parentage. She studied at Tanglewood and made her debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1966 (with Berg's Lulu-Symphonie). She sang with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1973, under Pierre Boulez, and made her British debut in London in 1975, in his composition Pli selon pli. In 1976 she sang Malinche in the first US performance of Montezuma by Sessions. She is noted for her performance of Schoenberg's Pierrot lunaire/Moonstruck Pierrot, and in contemporary music.
