Gore is currently researching resistance management plans for lepidopteran pests on genetically engineered Bt cotton and the timing of cotton bollworm adults emerging from corn, soybean, grain sorghum and conventional cotton. Bt cotton makes a bacterial toxin that tends to kill moths and butterflies. Five years after Bt cotton was first grown by four million small farmers in the Yellow River region of northern China, "the benefits continue," according to a 2002 study in The Plant Journal. |
