Bucaramanga

Industrial and commercial city, and capital of Santander department in north-central Colombia; population (2005) 502,700; metropolitan area 1,014,700. Coffee, tobacco, cacao, and cotton are produced in the surrounding region. The city is noted for its cigars. Bucaramanga was founded by the Spanish in 1622.
