Buchanan, Isobel (1954– )

Scottish soprano. She studied in Scotland and sang with the Australian Opera from 1976, making her debut as Pamina. She repeated the role at Glyndebourne in 1978, and the same year was successful as Micaela at the Vienna Staatsoper. She has sung Zerlina and Adina at Chicago and has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1979. Her other roles include Susanna, Fiordiligi, and Donna Elvira. She sang Dorabella at Glyndebourne in 1987, and since then has been heard only in concert.
