Bucher, Lothar (1817–1892)

Prussian politician. In 1848 he entered the Prussian national assembly, becoming leader of the extreme Democrats. Charged with various political offences 1860, he fled to Britain, where he worked as a journalist. His political views soon changed radically, and in 1864 he accepted a post in the Prussian foreign office and became private secretary to the prime minister, Otto von Bismarck.

Bucher drew up the text of the North German Confederation constitution, and took part in many diplomatic missions.
