Buckhannon

City and administrative headquarters of Upshur County, north-central West Virginia, on the Buckhannon River, 34 km/21 mi southeast of Clarksburg; population (1990) 5,900. It is in an agricultural region. Local industries include coal mining, lumbering, and production of natural gas and building materials.

It is the seat of West Virginia Wesleyan College (1890).
