    0.01 sec.

Buckingham, George Villiers, 2nd Duke of Buckingham (1628-1687)

English politician, a member of the Cabal under Charles II. A dissolute son of the first duke, he was brought up with the royal children. His play The Rehearsal satirized the style of the poet Dryden, who portrayed him as Zimri in Absalom and Achitophel. He succeeded to the dukedom in 1628.
