Buckley, Richard (Edward) (1953– )

US conductor. After studying in Aspen and at the Salzburg Mozarteum he worked for the Washington Opera Society 1973–74, and was associate conductor of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra 1974–84. He was musical director of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra 1983–86 and led Sallinen's The King Goes Forth to France at Santa Fe in 1986. He has also conducted Hoffmann in Los Angeles, Aïda in Chicago, and Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims/The Journey to Reims for the St Louis Opera. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1992, with L'Elisir d'Amore/Elixir of Love.
