Buckstone, John Baldwin (1802–1879)

English dramatist, actor, and theatre manager. He was an accomplished comedian and a prolific dramatist, mainly of farces and melodrama. He first appeared in London at the Surrey Theatre in 1822; in 1824 he joined the Coburg company, and in 1827 Daniel Terry's company at the Adelphi. His connection with the Haymarket Theatre, where many of his plays were first produced, began in 1833, and he was manager there 1853–78.
