Bucyrus

City and administrative headquarters of Crawford County, north-central Ohio, on the Sandusky River, 29 km/18 mi northeast of Marion; population (1990) 13,500. The surrounding area is agricultural. Bucyrus produces road and farm machinery, roller bearings, steel and iron stampings, copper utensils, fluorescent lamps, and rubber hose.

Founded in 1818, it was named for its beauty (‘Bu’) and for the surveyor's personal hero, Cyrus, founder of the ancient Persian Empire.
