Bugulma

City in Tatarstan, western Russian Federation, in the basin of the middle Volga, 260 km/162 mi southeast of Kazan; population (2001 est) 93,600. Bugulma lies on the main Ulyanovsk–Ufa railway line, and is an important centre of the oil and natural-gas industries. Machine and electrical- repair works are also located here. The city was founded in 1736.
