Bulacan

Province of central Luzon Island in the Philippines; area 2,670 sq km/1,031 sq mi; population (1995) 1,784,000. The capital is Malolos. The soil is fertile, and products include rice, fruit, corn, and sugar; there is also considerable mineral wealth. Industries include leather tanning, fishing, livestock, cement, and chemicals. There are hydroelectric and water-producing dams in the east of the province.

Bulacan contains spurs of the Caraballo mountains in the east, and lowlands in the west, including the swampy Pampanga delta, where shrimp farming is carried out. The River Angat, a tributary of the Pampanga, flows through the province.
