Bull, Ole (Borneman) (1810–1880)

Norwegian violinist and composer. He wrote two concertos and many other works for the violin. He was largely self-taught, since his father insisted on his studying theology. In 1829 he visited Louis Spohr in Kassel, Germany, and in 1832 first made his mark as a public player in Paris, France. He founded the Norse Theatre in Bergen, Norway, in 1850.

While in Paris, he appeared with Chopin and Heinrich Ernst, and went on to visit Italy with great success. He went to England first in 1836 and to the USA in 1843.
