bulletin board

In computing, a centre for the electronic storage of messages, usually accessed over the telephone network via a modem. Bulletin board systems (often abbreviated to BBSs) are usually dedicated to specific interest groups, and may carry public and private messages, notices, and programs. They experienced popularity during the early 1990s and have now been superceeded by internet forums.
